BUDGET: Between 5 crore INR and 10.99 crore INR (USD672,000 to USD1.35 million)
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust (client) is responsible for the development, maintenance, and management of the Shri Ram Temple at Ayodhya. The trust wanted to create a memorable experience for the pilgrims with a state-of-the-art lighting system.
WHAT DID THE CLIENT WANT TO ACHIEVE?
The idea was to illuminate the mandir, an architectural marvel, creating an ambience by highlighting the composition of all the ornamented elements on the structure. A non-glaring lighting design was to be achieved while accentuating the elements. They also wanted to achieve a welcoming and warm ambience, which was in contrast to the colour of the stones used for construction.
SCOPE OF WORK YOUR COMPANY WAS INVOLVED IN
Havells was involved in establishing a state-of-the-art lighting system to illuminate the temple as a complete solution provider, from the supply of the fixtures to their installation and seamless commissioning. All the challenges of execution were to be kept in mind as the high influx of devotees and outdoor settings provided impact-resistant solutions and products.
WHAT KEY CHALLENGES WERE FACED?
The lighting project presented unique challenges due to its intricate architecture and carvings, arousing the need for customised lighting solutions to accentuate them. It was a tough journey in transformation from an artistic to a realistic approach, considering strong structural and Vaastu challenges such as the non-usage of non-ferrous material across the entire site. Considering the high influx of devotees and the project’s outdoor settings, the solutions were required to be impact resistant and durable. A small form factor was needed yet without compromising on the lighting performance.
HOW WERE THOSE CHALLENGES RESOLVED?
Havells pushed the boundaries of innovation by integrating aesthetics and functionality in the lighting design and application to solve the given challenges at the site. Minimalistic designs were used, with special attention to the shape, size and colour of luminaires, to enhance the work of art without any visual hindrance. Created perfect fusion of light and dark scenario.Special optics were created to direct light beam towards the intended application area with much light spillage. To enhance comfort of devotees, direct glare of LEDs was eliminated with high quality diffusers.
HOW HAS YOUR WORK HELPED THE CLIENT?
The project came out well. The mandir is illuminated beautifully. Our Honourable Prime Minister could inaugurate the temple on the scheduled date. Overall, the project for illumination was completed within the given timeline. All the challenges faced at the site were well taken care of. Some limitations which the client had in terms of the material of the fixture were also worked up in a very innovative way.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF ABOUT THE PROJECT?
Our pride is that we could recreate the lighting up of Ayodhya temple to welcome Bhagwan Ram. It gives us immense pleasure when we see thousands of pilgrims visiting the temple and taking memories under our lighting system.
