PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Senior Management at ONGC envisioned an advanced technological hub with industry-leading audio-visual technology to centrally monitor and control their operations. This vision led to the creation of the Corporate Visualization Center (CVC), named ONGC DARPAN. “Darpan,” meaning “mirror” in Hindi, symbolizes a digital reflection of ONGC’s operations.

Pan Intellecom was awarded this project through competitive bidding, which made it a benchmark in the industry. The centrepiece is an 18.5 by 2.7-meter interactive Samsung curved LED with 0.8 mm pixel pitch, acting as a digital dashboard for ONGC’S overall operations. ONGC DARPAN employs AV over IP, ensuring robustness and future readiness of source inputs. The T1V ThinkHub manages 16 inputs on the LED Video wall with an overall canvas of 22080 x 3240 pixels and is integrated with Wavex for simultaneous 32 touch points for interactivity and screen collaboration. A redundant Datapath controller ensures reliability for this mission critical application. .

The project at ONGC, initiated by Mr Manoj Kujur, Head of IT at ONGC, aimed to create this Visualization centre. KLM Designs India designed the facility, and Pan Intellecom Ltd executed the design, bringing this world-class vision to reality.


WHAT DID THE CLIENT WANT TO ACHIEVE?

ONGC Darpan is a centralized digital hub designed to provide real-time data, enabling the management to make prompt, data-driven decisions using advanced AV technology for the following applications :

Strategic Hub for Technology and Innovation Center for leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovations to drive collaboration, efficiency, and sustainability across ONGC’s operations.

Advanced Visualization and Immersion State-of-the-art visualization systems create deeply immersive and interactive experiences to effectively convey ONGC’s vision, strategy, and operations.

Data-driven insights and decision-making real-time dashboards and analytics provide comprehensive, data-driven insights to support informed decision-making across diverse projects and initiatives.

Promoting Sustainability: The CVC integrates green design principles and sustainability practices, reducing environmental impact and showcasing ONGC’s commitment to sustainability.


SCOPE OF WORK YOUR COMPANY WAS INVOLVED IN

Pan Intellecom executed the ONGC Darpan project on a turnkey basis, crafting and customizing it from scratch to meet the specific requirements of the end customer. Working closely with KLM Designs India, Pan Intellecom delivered a comprehensive solution that included the following:

Civil modifications, interior and Acoustics work as per design and client requirements.

Interactive Curved Active LED—This seamless 18.5m x 2.7m curved active LED has a 0.8mm pixel pitch and is fully touch-enabled with a Wavex Touch Overlay and T1V Collaborative Controller.

AVOIP Connectivity, Asymmetric LED, Floor LED, QSC and Polycom PTZ Cameras with motorised lifts, Control desk connectivity with technical equipment (workstations and 49″ monitors), Holographic room setup with Christie projectors, VR setup with Microsoft Trimble XR10.

A Lutron DALI controller controls curved linear ceiling recessed lights and LED modules.

Precision HVAC, Electrical and 100KVA UPS System- 3-microprocessor-based precision A/C units of 10 TR each with ducting.

IT and Networking—Cisco switches are installed along with Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) for a cloud-like, easily managed platform. Darpan has five HCI servers with five nodes.

Content Creation of 42 minutes (3D, VR, Animations).


WHAT KEY CHALLENGES WERE FACED?

Key Challenges Faced During the Execution of the Visualization Center:

Design Re-establishment: The initial project scope was to create an experience centre split into three rooms: the experience centre, training and VR room, and holographic room. With a C-shaped video wall proposed in the RFP. During the kick-off meeting, ONGC’s top management merged the experience centre and VR room (Management Centers 1 and 2) and changed the video wall design from C-shaped to curved. This necessitated several design and layout changes. Multiple meetings were held to re-establish the interior, HVAC, and AV designs in collaboration with the customer and consultant.

Increased Scope of Work: We worked closely with ONGC to create a customized solution, significantly increasing the scope of work. The corridor leading to the visualization centre was rejuvenated with an asymmetric LED. Additionally, a conference room with a VR setup was requested, designed, and installed to facilitate quick hybrid virtual discussions.

Delays in Approvals: The project team sought inputs for content and interiors from ONGC’s top management. As the number of stakeholders increased, so did the approval time, causing delays in the project execution timeline.


HOW WERE THOSE CHALLENGES RESOLVED?

Resolution of Key Challenges During the Visualization Center Execution:

Prompt Revision of Overall Solution: Pan Intellecom, in collaboration with KLM Designs India, promptly revised the overall solution after ONGC’s approvals. Revised drawings were issued, and the pace of civil work on-site was increased through proper supervision and coordination.

Enhanced Project Planning: Detailed project planning using PERT and GANTT charts helped schedule tasks, allocate resources efficiently, and identify potential bottlenecks early. This structured approach kept the project on track despite the increased scope of work.

Timely Approvals and Follow-ups: Regular and timely follow-ups were conducted to gather necessary approvals from stakeholders, minimizing delays caused by increased stakeholder involvement.

Effective Coordination with OEMs: Meetings with OEMs like Samsung, QSC, and T1V ensured proper site connectivity and seamless integration of installed systems.

By addressing these challenges with prompt action, detailed planning, and effective coordination, Pan Intellecom successfully delivered the ONGC Darpan project within the stipulated timeline and to the client’s satisfaction.


HOW HAS YOUR WORK HELPED THE CLIENT?

An interactive dashboard, displayed on the videowall at ONGC Darpan, is the heart of ONGC operations from remote sites. It allows internal organization monitoring. Top management conducts daily review meetings at ONGC Darpan, where they can view operations at all company assets, wells, and rigs.

The system installed by our company has significantly aided ONGC in crisis management, preventing time and resource loss. For example, during drilling at the Agartala Asset, shallow gas was detected, prompting a well shutdown. The shallow gas can cause severe damage if not managed quickly. Preventive action was swiftly taken through a quick hybrid virtual meeting at the conference table installed at Darpan. Senior managers reviewed the well and guided operations to contain the well flow.

ONGC Darpan also acts as a platform to develop systems with AR and VR with predictive analytics for collaboration and training to maintain critical equipment in oil and gas fields.

Darpan has been transformed into a world-class facility, inaugurated by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri (Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas) and Shri Arun Kumar Singh (Chairman of ONGC) on January 25, 2024. It plays a crucial role in ONGC’s daily operations. Our installation has been appreciated and has succeeded in meeting the customer’s expectations.
