PROJECT OVERVIEW
A multimedia show was required to be installed at the heritage monument of cellular Jail recalling the story of suffering of our freedom fighters and build upon the story of Port Blair & Andaman Islands.
What did the client want to achieve?
The client wanted a fresh lease of life for the show and boost night tourism at the monument. The island does not have much to engage with and cellular Jail is the central attraction of the island , with it’s history being that of a penal colony.
Scope of work your company was involved in
We were required to design the show with technologies of Projection, holograms, dynamic lighting and 16.1 Audio and install it, make the content along with final programming and commissioning.
What key challenges were faced?
The foremost challenge was absence of any credible facade and space to install projectors . Preventing shadows of protruding shades was a huge challenge. Also creating multi layered experience for the drama of the story to unfold , where there was none.
How were those challenges resolved?
The existing wings of the Jail were used smartly, mixing lights and projection to create effects which run in continuity across media. Hologram surfaces were created in the existing crevices of the Jail walls to create a multilayered and dual use. Projectors were taken to a height while aiming at the walls straight to avoid casting of shadows of protrusions.
How has your work helped the client?
The show is a huge success and it has given the client revival of the footfalls it was hoping for. Three shows are full houses and double the amount of investment has been covered in just 9 months of its running. It has also helped the client rebuild an image of a popular and modern show with advanced technology, at par with world standards.
What are you most proud of in relation to the project?
We were able to use the existing pre approved script, which was a pre requisite and turn its limitation of having been written for only illumination, on its head to our advantage by use of multiple surfaces.
