What key challenges were faced?
Optical Projection Spill: Mitigated a critical optical hazard where the high-lumen projector beam spilled directly into the audience’s eyes, caused by the stark elevation difference between the elevated viewing gallery and the lower water surface.
Complex Geometric Alignment: Required building the ~70-meter fountain in a highly specific curved radius to perfectly match the lake’s permanent central viewing gallery for optimal audience sightlines.
Massive Structural Weight: Designing a single-frame metallic floating pipe capable of supporting tons of AV, plumbing, and mechanical gear without sinking or bending.
Extreme Depth Proximity: The installation site was located in highly deep waters just 2-3 feet away from the viewing gallery edge.
Impossible In-Situ Assembly: The severe water depth made it virtually impossible to assemble the intricate mechanical and AV components directly at the predefined site, as it would require technicians to execute precision engineering while swimming.
Rigid Material Constraints: Standard heavy-duty structural pipes were too stiff to manually bend into the specific curvature required to match the lake’s architecture.
How were those challenges resolved?
Optical Beam Shielding: Resolved projector glare caused by elevation differences by elevating the water screen nozzle, recalibrating projector angles, and mounting a custom rectangular baffle sheet in front of the screen to block direct light from reaching audience eyes.
Angular Pipe Welding: Overcame the stiffness of the heavy Main Floating Pipe (400 NB x 5 mm thick) by welding precision-cut straight segments in a calculated angular pattern to achieve the exact curved radius required by the lake layout.
Terrestrial Assembly: Solved deep-water installation risks by fully pre-fabricating the entire ~70-meter single-frame structure—including all mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and AV gear—on dry land near the shore.
Crane & Boat Deployment: Used heavy industrial cranes to lift the multi-ton assembled frame onto the water, then towed it via boats across the lake to its exact operational site near the viewing gallery.
Plug-and-Play Setup: Eliminated dangerous underwater integration by leaving only final electrical cable extensions to be connected post-towing.
