Project Overview

The “Kumbh Katha” Water & Laser Show at Kali Ghat, Boat Club, Prayagraj, is a state-of-the-art evening spectacle launched during Maha Kumbh 2025 and intended to run for five years. The 45-minute performance fuses storytelling, synchronised laser projections, swirling water screens, and immersive soundscapes. It visually brings to life the mythology and grandeur of the Tirtharaj Prayagraj and Maha Kumbh through dynamic narratives on water curtains, laser beams, and choreographed fountains.

Backed by a ₹22 crore investment from the Uttar Pradesh Tourism & Culture Department, the show is free to the public and runs daily. Project at Kali Ghat was inaugurated by UP minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, marking it as a key cultural draw amid the 400 million–person Maha Kumbh.

Despite operational challenges—dense fog, fluctuating river currents, and the complexity of deploying water-based projectors—our dedicated crew managed boat-access logistics and on-river rigging to ensure flawless execution. As a result, this running installation not only entertains but also educates, captivating pilgrims and tourists alike by connecting modern technology with ancient spiritual heritage. Over 200,000 viewers have already attended, making it a landmark attraction that celebrates India’s cultural legacy.

What did the client want to achieve?

The client aimed to create a world-class cultural attraction that would celebrate the spiritual and historical significance of Prayagraj and the Maha Kumbh. Their goal was to enhance the visitor experience through an immersive water and laser show that educates, entertains, and inspires. By blending cutting-edge technology with compelling storytelling, they sought to highlight the legacy of Tirtharaj Prayagraj and the grandeur of Kumbh in a visually captivating manner. Additionally, the show was envisioned as a long-term public attraction—running beyond the 2025 Maha Kumbh—to promote tourism, reinforce Prayagraj’s identity as a spiritual hub, and offer a free, accessible spectacle for both pilgrims and tourists.

Scope of work your company was involved in

Our scope of work for the Kumbh Water Laser Show and Beautification Project encompasses the complete ideation, development, and execution of a world-class spectacle. This includes in-depth research, conceptualization, and creation of a captivating show concept that blends tradition with cutting-edge technology. We will craft a compelling script and oversee its seamless performance, engaging reputed voice-over artists (as approved by the Authority) to record narrations and developing an original musical score with recording, mixing, and remixing, along with special effects, ensuring perfect synchronization with the narrative. To deliver an immersive experience, we will integrate advanced audiovisual aids and procure and install brand-new, state-of-the-art hardware and software—including a high-quality sound system, lighting system, show control mechanisms, control room setup, wiring and cabling, as well as a diesel generator for uninterrupted power backup. Every element of the project will align with the approved design and concept, ensuring a transformative and memorable light-and-sound experience for Kumbh.

What Key Challenges were faced?

The project faced several challenges, primarily due to its unique on-river setup at Kali Ghat, Boat Club, Prayagraj. Installing projection and laser equipment directly in the Yamuna River demanded extensive planning and innovative rigging techniques, while unpredictable currents and wave patterns constantly threatened stability and alignment. Dense winter fog during the Maha Kumbh season further complicated the calibration of lasers and projections. Accessing the setup area via boats added to logistical difficulties, especially during periods of high footfall and fluctuating water levels, while ensuring electrical safety on a floating installation required custom waterproofing and rigorous monitoring. Moreover, the work had to be executed with zero intrusion into the river’s ecology and heritage surroundings, demanding sensitive operational practices.

Perhaps the most formidable challenge was the highly compressed 45-day timeline to complete the entire project—covering concept design, scriptwriting, filming, post-production, site development, hardware procurement, installation, testing, and the final execution of the live show. Coordinating multidisciplinary teams under these constraints required precise planning, rapid decision-making, and round-the-clock execution.

How were those challenges resolved?

To overcome the challenges of setting up a water and laser show in the Yamuna River, the team adopted innovative strategies. Custom floating platforms were engineered for secure installation of projection and laser equipment, ensuring stability despite river currents and waves. To counter dense fog, high-lumen projectors were used, and nighttime calibration trials optimised visuals for clarity.

Logistical access was managed with motorboats and rafts for safe transport of equipment and crew, while special waterproofing and insulation ensured electrical safety. All installations were non-invasive and eco-sensitive, adhering to heritage guidelines.

The compressed 45-day timeline was met through meticulous planning, parallel execution of design, scripting, filming, site development, and the deployment of multiple specialised teams working round-the-clock. Close coordination with local authorities streamlined permissions and crowd management, while on-site teams continuously monitored environmental factors for real-time adjustments. These combined efforts ensured the timely delivery and the smooth execution of a spectacular show.

How has your work helped the client

Our work has helped the client transform their vision into a landmark cultural experience that seamlessly blends spirituality, heritage, and technology. By developing compelling and emotionally resonant content rooted in Prayagraj’s sacred history and the grandeur of Maha Kumbh, we elevated the narrative depth of the show, turning it into more than just a visual spectacle—it became a medium of cultural education and spiritual reflection.

Through our seamless collaboration and adaptive approach, we addressed complex on-ground challenges and ensured timely, high-quality execution. The engaging storytelling and synchronised visuals have captivated lakhs of visitors, enhancing the city’s reputation as a spiritual tourism hub. The show’s success has generated positive public and media attention, validating the client’s investment and objectives.

Furthermore, the project’s long-term appeal positions it as a sustainable tourist attraction, with the potential to draw audiences even beyond Maha Kumbh 2025. Our work has thus empowered the client to deliver a high-impact public experience that celebrates India’s intangible cultural heritage while boosting regional tourism and civic pride.

What are you most proud of about the project?

We are most proud of our ability to bring the soul of Prayagraj and the grandeur of Maha Kumbh to life through a seamless fusion of storytelling, technology, and artistic vision. Despite the technical and environmental complexities of executing a large-scale laser and water show directly on the river, our team remained unwavering in their commitment and ingenuity. From scripting evocative narratives to adapting to real-time conditions, including fog, currents, and logistical constraints, every challenge was met with creativity and dedication.

What stands out most is the emotional impact of the show—witnessing audiences moved, enlightened, and inspired by the experience. The fact that our content continues to engage thousands of pilgrims and tourists daily, and will do so for years to come, is a testament to the lasting value we’ve helped create. Delivering a world-class spectacle rooted in India’s spiritual heritage, under such challenging conditions, remains a defining and deeply fulfilling achievement for our team.

Project Overview

The Thiruvalluvar Statue in Kanyakumari, standing 133 feet tall at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean, is a revered symbol of Tamil heritage. Having weathered earthquakes and harsh marine conditions, it represents resilience and cultural pride.

Modern Stage Services (Projects) was entrusted with creating a 3D projection mapping show on this iconic monument—an unprecedented fusion of technology, art, and philosophy. Using 3D laser projection, synchronised lighting, and 5.1 surround sound, we transformed a silent statue into a vibrant storyteller reciting ancient Tamil couplets in an engaging, contemporary format.

High-lumen RGB laser projectors were deployed on the mainland, and a marine-grade fibre optic network was laid underwater to enable real-time AV synchronisation between the viewing gallery and the offshore statue. The result is a permanent, high-impact installation.

Beyond its technical brilliance, the project is a cultural revival—rekindling interest in the Thirukkural among locals and tourists, especially younger audiences. The statue now serves not just as a monument but as a living legacy that bridges ancient wisdom with modern storytelling tools.

What did the client want to achieve?

Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) envisioned a permanent, meaningful show that would breathe life into the Thiruvalluvar Statue using cutting-edge multimedia technology. Their objective was twofold:

1. Cultural Revival – To present Thiruvalluvar’s 1330 couplets in a format that resonates with today’s audiences, particularly youth. The content had to be simple, powerful, and enjoyable while preserving the philosophical depth of the Thirukkural.

2. Tourism Development – TTDC aimed to extend footfall beyond daylight hours and transform the area into a vibrant evening attraction. By adding a nighttime spectacle, they hoped to boost local engagement, increase tourist stays, and create new opportunities for cultural tourism.

The final deliverable was expected to be emotionally impactful, culturally respectful, visually stunning, and technically robust enough to operate year-round in coastal weather conditions, an international-grade installation celebrating Tamil heritage.

Scope of work your company was involved in

We handled the project from concept to execution, with a long-term operational commitment.

Pre-Production: We began with a detailed site survey, incl. environmental, logistical, and technical aspects. Our creative team developed the concept, script, and visuals. Two 25-minute shows (in Tamil & English) were produced using animation, narration and sound design.

Hardware & Installation: We installed 3D laser projectors, 5.1 audio systems, IP-rated lighting, Pixera media servers, Lightware processors, and Visual Productions lighting control systems. A 500-metre underwater Belden fibre optic cable connected the statue with the mainland control room for AV sync. The viewing gallery was upgraded with seating, sound, and lighting.

Engineering: All equipment was housed in custom stainless steel IP66 enclosures, mounted on vibration-proof, corrosion-resistant platforms with desiccant systems to withstand harsh coastal conditions.

Operations & Maintenance: We took a 5-year O&M contract, including trained staff, spare provisioning, and routine servicing. A weatherproof control room with UPS backup and fire safety ensures uninterrupted nightly operation.

We delivered an installation that is visually stunning, culturally rich, and technically robust, built to last in harsh coastal conditions.

What Key Challenges were faced?

• Extreme Marine Conditions: Gale-force winds, salt-laden humidity, and constant spray posed a serious threat to electronic components and optics.
• Hardware Durability: Standard AV gear would fail quickly. All equipment had to be marine-grade, IP-rated, and vibration-resistant.
• Projection Surface Complexity: The statue’s dark, rough granite and curved form created serious challenges for brightness, contrast, and pixel alignment.
• 3D Geometry & Calibration: Sub-millimetre precision was required to map visuals onto the uneven 133-ft statue using LiDAR scanning and automated edge-blending.
• Island–Mainland Connectivity: With no RF reliability across open waters and no prior infrastructure, laying a high-speed, real-time AV data link was essential.
• Cultural Sensitivity: The content (text, imagery, voiceovers) needed rigorous review to align with Tamil values, language precision, and historical context.
• Logistics & Timeline: Transporting materials, installing heavy equipment on a remote island, and managing tide-dependent operations within a strict deadline required precise coordination.
Each challenge required a blend of engineering innovation, cultural sensitivity, and logistical skill, ensuring timely delivery at a standard worthy of the site’s national importance.

How were those challenges resolved?

To overcome marine isolation, a 500-m underwater fibre optic cable was laid in seabed trenches, sealed in IP68 splice boxes, allowing zero-latency AV sync. Installation was done at low tide using diver-assisted trenching and sealing.

All AV hardware, including Christie Griffyn 4K35-RGB and M25 4K projectors, was housed in custom stainless steel IP66 enclosures on vibration-isolated platforms. Internal desiccants and fans ensured long-term durability.

Projection mapping on rough granite was achieved using high-lumen projectors and Pixera servers. 3D LiDAR scans enabled precision modelling, while automated tools ensured sub-millimetre edge blending.

A marine-grade JBL AWC 5.1 sound system was installed in the viewing gallery and synchronised via fibre link. PR Lighting AQUA 350 IP65 moving heads provided dynamic lighting.

The control room included redundant UPS, power backup, temperature control, and fire suppression for uninterrupted operations.

Cultural accuracy was ensured through TTDC’s multi-phase approval involving historians, linguists, and cultural experts who vetted the script, animation, and narration. With precise planning, innovative engineering, and cultural respect, we delivered a world-class, future-ready installation in one of India’s most challenging environments.

How has your work helped the client

Our work enabled TTDC to reimagine the Thiruvalluvar Statue as a dynamic cultural attraction instead of a static landmark. The 3D projection mapping shows transformed Kanyakumari’s evenings, boosting tourism, increasing visitor stay duration, and energising the local economy.

The bilingual format in Tamil and English made the show accessible to a broader audience. It has become especially popular among school groups, families, and cultural tourists, helping revive interest in the Thirukkural and Tamil identity.

With the entire system designed for longevity and minimal maintenance, TTDC now benefits from a high-impact yet low-dependency installation. Local personnel trained by our team ensure smooth daily operations, reducing reliance on external vendors and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The installation also gave TTDC the ability to host special shows during festivals, national holidays, and state functions—enhancing cultural programming options.
In essence, we delivered not just a show but a cultural infrastructure asset that empowers TTDC to engage, educate, and inspire visitors year-round.

What are you most proud of about the project?

We’re most proud of turning a remote, weather-beaten granite statue into a world-class immersive experience. The Thiruvalluvar Projection Mapping Show is India’s first permanently installed offshore laser projection system—designed to operate flawlessly in one of the harshest environments.

But beyond technology, the real victory lies in emotional connection. We gave voice to an ancient philosopher through light, sound, and storytelling. Pilgrims now hear his couplets as they watch the waves. Children engage with Tamil wisdom in a format they understand. Tourists leave with a memory that’s both visual and meaningful.
It’s a project where engineering excellence met cultural reverence, and that’s a rare kind of pride.

Project Overview

The “Upgradation of Sound & Light Show at Agra Fort” transforms a heritage classic into a world-class night-time experience. Implemented under the Uttar Pradesh Pro-Poor Tourism Development Project, the initiative replaces the defunct 2011 show, stopped in 2019, with a new, fully reimagined production.

The project integrates powerful laser projection, immersive surround sound, intelligent lighting, and precision programming to narrate the Mughal legacy of Agra Fort. Meticulously designed with the Archaeological Survey of India’s approval, it preserves heritage integrity while elevating visitor engagement.

Beyond cultural impact, the show drives tourism-led economic growth, creating direct and indirect local employment and new business opportunities. With five years of professional operation and maintenance, it ensures consistent quality and sustainability.

This revitalised attraction positions Agra Fort as a model for modern heritage interpretation, seamlessly blending historical storytelling with cutting-edge technology for global audiences.

What did the client want to achieve?

The Department of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh, sought to reinvigorate Agra Fort’s Sound & Light Show as a world-class heritage experience aligned with the UP Pro-Poor Tourism Development Project.

The earlier show, launched in 2011, had become technically obsolete and artistically dated, leading to its discontinuation in 2019. The client aimed to replace it with a modern, high-quality production that would:

* Enhance Visitor Engagement

* Preserve Cultural Integrity

* Boost Tourism Economy

* Deliver Sustainability.

The overarching goal was to create a benchmark cultural experience that marries advanced projection, lighting, and sound technology with authentic storytelling- strengthening Agra’s global tourism appeal while generating local employment and revenue opportunities.

Scope of work your company was involved in

Tricolor India Schauspiel Pvt. Ltd. executed the Agra Fort Sound & Light Show upgrade on an EPC basis, followed by five years of operation and maintenance.

The scope included:

Content Creation – Research, scriptwriting, multilingual narration, and music composition to authentically portray Mughal history.

System Design – ASI-approved projection, lighting, and audio plans tailored to the fort’s heritage setting.

Installation – High-lumen laser projectors, intelligent lighting, immersive sound systems, control servers, and show software.

Integration & Programming – Synchronisation of audio, visuals, and effects for a seamless experience.

Testing & Commissioning – Trials under varied site conditions.

Operation & Maintenance – Five years of professional show management and technical upkeep.

Our role combined heritage sensitivity with advanced technology to deliver a world-class attraction, enhancing Agra Fort’s cultural and tourism value.

What Key Challenges were faced?

Upgrading the Agra Fort Sound and Light Show required addressing multiple environmental and heritage-related challenges. The open-air installation is exposed to rain and high humidity, which can damage sensitive equipment. To counter this, all projectors and lasers were housed in weatherproof enclosures fitted with sensors to track temperature and moisture. Each enclosure was equipped with air conditioning units to maintain optimal conditions and ensure reliability.

Extreme summer heat in Agra, often exceeding 45°C, posed another challenge for high-lumen projectors and lighting systems. High-efficiency cooling systems, insulated canopies, and thermal shielding were installed to protect equipment from overheating.

The fort’s UNESCO World Heritage status required all work to be non-invasive, with careful routing of cables, mounts, and fixtures in full compliance with ASI guidelines.

Consistent operation through seasonal extremes is ensured with preventive maintenance schedules and remote monitoring, maintaining performance quality year-round.

How were those challenges resolved?

Rain and humidity were managed by placing projectors and lasers in sealed weatherproof enclosures with temperature and humidity sensors. Each enclosure is fitted with dedicated air-conditioning units to maintain optimal internal conditions.

Extreme summer heat, often above 45°C, was addressed through insulated canopies, high-efficiency cooling systems, and thermal shielding. All components were chosen for durability in extreme temperatures.

Heritage sensitivity was ensured by using non-invasive installation techniques and ASI-approved cable routing and mounting. Equipment was camouflaged to blend with the fort’s architecture, maintaining the site’s visual integrity.

Year-round reliability is supported by remote monitoring and preventive maintenance schedules. These measures ensure stable performance and heritage preservation, enabling a world-class visitor experience.

How has your work helped the client

The upgraded Sound and Light Show at Agra Fort has transformed the Department of Tourism’s heritage offering into a world-class cultural experience. The new production combines immersive storytelling, high-lumen projection, intelligent lighting, and spatial audio to present the Mughal legacy in a compelling format.

Operationally, robust weatherproof enclosures, air-conditioned projector systems, and ASI-compliant, non-invasive installations—combined with five years of professional operation and maintenance- ensure consistent quality despite rain, humidity, and extreme heat.

Economically, the enhanced evening attraction extends visitor stays, increases tourist spending, and creates employment for local communities, aligning with the UP Pro-Poor Tourism Development Project’s objectives.

The result is a sustainable, high-impact cultural asset that meets the client’s goals of heritage preservation, technical excellence, and economic benefit.

What are you most proud of about the project?

We are proud to have delivered a project that is both a technical marvel and a culturally rooted experience. The Agra Fort Sound and Light Show captures 5,000 years of history in just 40 minutes, blending high-end projection, lighting, and audio with authentic storytelling that respects the monument’s heritage.

Our work has drawn admiration from audiences, including renowned actors from the Hindi film industry, who marvelled at how seamlessly we brought the fort’s history to life.

Creating a production that is visually spectacular, historically accurate, and operationally sustainable within a UNESCO World Heritage Site stands as a proud milestone for our team.

Project Overview

Shamlaji Temple, situated on the banks of the Meshwo River in the Arvalli district, is an ancient site known for its unique architecture and the presence of fossils that hint at a long-lost city believed to have existed around 1500 years ago. Once as beautiful as the town of Chandrapri, the area also featured a dam on the Meshwo River. Pilgrims celebrate the Dipotsavi festival during Kartikini Poonam, drawing thousands of tourists and a large fair. We were privileged to contribute to this project by enhancing the site as a tourism destination, featuring a spectacular sound, light, and video mapping show that narrates the history of Shamlaji Temple. Notably, this is India’s first self-sustaining green energy 3D Projection Mapping Show. Powered entirely by Solar as renewable energy, the system not only meets all operational energy needs but also generates a monthly surplus of ₹40,000 ($465).

What did the client want to achieve?

The Ancient Shamlaji Temple, nestled along the banks of the Meshwo River in the Aravalli district, is a testament to rich historical heritage and culture. Renowned for its unique architecture, the temple also holds secrets of a long-lost city believed to have thrived around 1500 years ago, as evidenced by the fossils found in the area.

In a bid to honour this historical gem, the client aims to develop a green initiative that not only reduces the carbon footprint but also ensures that the project remains accessible and free of charge for devotees and visitors. This initiative will provide an opportunity for people to explore and appreciate the temple’s history and significance without financial barriers. By fostering an environment of learning and reverence, the project seeks to create a sustainable model that preserves the temple’s legacy while promoting eco-friendly practices. Through this endeavour, the client hopes to inspire a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical importance of the Ancient Shamlaji Temple, making it a welcoming space for all who wish to connect with its storied past.

Scope of work your company was involved in

Design, Supply, Installation, Commissioning and Operation & Maintenance for 5 (Five) Years of 3D Projection Mapping on a Turnkey Basis at Shree Shamlaji Vishnu Mandir, Gujarat.

What Key Challenges were faced?

As always, when working in such sacred environments, it was essential to preserve the temple’s historical integrity while installing modern AV equipment. The temple’s structure and constant foot traffic required careful planning for equipment placement to minimise interference with pilgrims.

The site also posed a very real challenge of monkey menace. They continued to tamper with the cabling even as the installation work was underway. It was essential to protect the cables, projection systems and AC conduits with special protective cabinets.

How were those challenges resolved?

This project would not have come to life if it weren’t for the excellent collaboration between Star Dimensions, who executed the integration, Rhino Engineers, who developed the concept and Magical Theatre’s video content. The team utilised five Barco 3-chip DLP laser projectors, each delivering 22,000 lumens, to create stunning visuals on the temple’s 90ft x 85ft façade. An air-conditioned control cabin was installed on the rooftop to house the projectors and AV systems, protecting them from dust, heat, rain and curious primates. Thanks to its robustness, the UDM can withstand the endurances of life on the road. Notably, the project also included the installation of a 120KW solar power system with 220 panels to support the operations – the first of its kind in the region. The projection mapping show was entirely powered by renewable energy, aligning with the broader goals of promoting sustainable tourism and preserving the environment while enhancing the cultural and spiritual experience at the Shamlaji Temple.

How has your work helped the client

We are proud to have enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the historic Shamlaji Temple while preserving its cultural and architectural integrity. With invaluable support from Magical Theatre—who led content creation and voice-over—we brought the temple’s story to life with deep respect for its legacy. In addition to the visual and experiential upgrades, we installed 220 solar panels, transforming the site into a sustainable initiative that aligns with modern environmental standards. This fusion of traditional heritage and contemporary technology not only reduces energy consumption but also enriches the visitor experience. Our work highlights the temple’s historical significance and promotes cultural awareness, making it a more engaging and meaningful destination. Through this project, we remain committed to responsible development—honouring the past while embracing the future—and ensuring that the Shamlaji Temple continues to inspire generations to come.

Project Overview

Commissioned by MPSTDC, our mandate was to upgrade the iconic Sound & Light Show at the Western Group of Temples in Khajuraho—a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its exquisite temple architecture and cultural significance. The goal was to transform the existing experience into a world-class attraction through state-of-the-art projection, immersive lighting, and enhanced sound design, all while maintaining the sanctity and integrity of the heritage site.

Our approach was rooted in innovation and sensitivity. We reimagined the narrative through immersive storytelling, enriched with dynamic visuals and high-fidelity soundscapes that bring the history and spirit of Khajuraho to life. Every element was carefully chosen to harmonise with the monument’s timeless aesthetic.

The project presented unique challenges, from unpredictable weather and high humidity to uneven terrain and strict conservation guidelines. Despite these complexities, we delivered a transformative experience that celebrates the grandeur of Khajuraho while enhancing tourist engagement and promoting cultural tourism. Today, the upgraded show stands as a testament to how technology and heritage can coexist, elevating one of India’s most treasured landmarks.

What did the client want to achieve?

The client, MPSTDC, sought our expertise for a turnkey project.

They asked us to upgrade the existing sound and light show at the Western Group of Temples in Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The brief involved enhancing the show’s quality and impact through improved projection, lighting, and sound systems—ensuring a more engaging visitor experience, while preserving the integrity and sanctity of the heritage monument.

In both projects, the client was looking for an innovative and sensitive approach that would enhance tourist engagement, promote cultural storytelling, and elevate the overall site experience.

Scope of work your company was involved in

At the Western Group of Temples in Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we were entrusted with the upgradation of the existing Sound and Light Show as part of MPSTDC’s heritage tourism enhancement initiative.

Our scope began with a complete creative redevelopment of the show. This included in-depth research, scriptwriting, and the production of a new multilingual narration, supported by original music and sound design. The goal was to elevate the storytelling to match the grandeur and historical depth of Khajuraho’s architectural marvels.

We replaced outdated systems with high-resolution projection, intelligent lighting, and an advanced multi-channel audio setup—ensuring a seamless, immersive experience for audiences. All equipment was carefully integrated to maintain the sanctity and visual integrity of the heritage site.

In addition to the design and installation, we also undertook testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance responsibilities for the duration of the contract. Every aspect of the project was executed with a deep commitment to cultural sensitivity, technical precision, and visitor engagement—positioning the Khajuraho show as a world-class heritage tourism experience.

What Key Challenges were faced?

Key Challenges Faced:

Working within a UNESCO World Heritage Site required strict adherence to ASI guidelines, allowing no physical alterations to the monument structures.

Upgrading legacy infrastructure without disrupting ongoing tourist activities demanded meticulous planning and phased execution.

Achieving high-quality projection and sound in an open-air, ambient-light-heavy environment posed significant technical hurdles.

Balancing modern storytelling with historical authenticity required sensitive creative interpretation and expert narration choices.

Weather and terrain conditions added logistical complexities during equipment installation and testing.

How were those challenges resolved?

How We Overcame the Challenges:

We worked in close coordination with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to ensure all installations were non-intrusive and reversible, preserving the site’s integrity.

A phased execution plan was adopted, allowing upgrades to proceed without interrupting regular tourist hours.

Advanced equipment, such as high-lumen projectors, laser-based lighting, and directional audio systems, was calibrated to perform optimally in challenging open-air conditions.
Our team of historians and writers collaborated to ensure the script was both factually accurate and emotionally engaging, striking a balance between authenticity and storytelling.

To address terrain and weather challenges, we used custom mounting solutions and implemented weatherproof enclosures for all critical equipment.

How has your work helped the client

Since Tricolor India Schauspiel upgraded the Sound and Light Show at Khajuraho, the project has delivered measurable results for MPSTDC. Within the first six months of relaunch, the show recorded a 40% increase in average daily footfall, rising from 250 to over 350 visitors per show, with weekend audiences often crossing 500.

Ticket revenue saw a corresponding rise of nearly 45%, creating a strong return on investment for the client. The new multilingual format (Hindi, English, and regional languages) has broadened the audience base, attracting international tourists, school groups, and domestic travellers alike.

Visitor satisfaction scores, based on MPSTDC’s post-show feedback forms, improved from 3.4 to 4.7 out of 5, with high appreciation for the enhanced narration, visual clarity, and emotional storytelling.

Operationally, the upgrade reduced technical downtime by over 60%, thanks to the integration of weatherproof, low-maintenance systems. MPSTDC has since cited the Khajuraho show as a model success story for public-private collaboration in heritage tourism.

Our work has not only elevated the visitor experience but also reinforced Khajuraho’s position as a must-visit cultural destination in India.

What are you most proud of about the project?

What we’re most proud of is turning a declining and outdated sound and light show at Khajuraho into a relevant, engaging, and technically robust experience that is now once again drawing crowds and appreciation.

Before the upgrade, the show suffered from poor attendance, dated storytelling, and frequent technical issues. Through careful planning, creative rewriting, and deployment of modern technology, we were able to restore its appeal without altering the site’s heritage value- a critical requirement at this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We’re proud of how we navigated complex challenges: strict ASI guidelines, a fragile site, and the need to work without disrupting daily tourism. The project was executed on time and without a single compliance violation, a testament to the team’s discipline and respect for the monument.

Most of all, we’re proud that the show now earns praise from audiences, that footfall has visibly increased, and that the client sees it as a model for future heritage projects. It’s proof that with the right intent and execution, even legacy systems can be transformed into meaningful, high-impact visitor experiences.

Project Overview

At Knownsense Studios, we believe storytelling should not just be seen or heard—it should be felt. With this vision, we created Echo Echoes, an immersive experience that redefines how audiences connect with science, nature, and their senses.

Built entirely in-house, Echo Echoes is housed in a custom 45 ft x 17 ft x 15 ft enclosure, where seamless 360° projections transport visitors through Earth’s most striking environments—from the icy Himalayas and arid deserts to lush rainforests, the plains of Punjab, and vibrant underwater worlds. Each transition combines sensory effects—wind, heat, scents, and sound—for a rich, immersive journey. What sets Echo Echoes apart is its interactivity: visitors don’t just watch—they engage. They can crack ice beneath their feet, disturb snakes in the desert, explore living rainforests, or feel submerged among marine life.

This responsive design invites awe, play, and personal discovery, transforming passive viewing into active participation. It’s more than a projection-mapped spectacle—it’s a meticulously crafted symphony of visuals, spatial effects, and interaction.

Echo Echoes, located at the Pushpa Gujral Science City, is a bold leap in immersive storytelling, reflecting Knownsense Studios’ commitment to blending art, science, and technology to create impactful, future-ready experiences.

What did the client want to achieve?

Pushpa Gujral Science City wanted to develop an immersive, multi-sensory projection-mapped experience titled “Healthy Ecosystems – Healthy Citizens: A Virtual Experience”. The objective was to promote science education through engaging, interactive, and experiential learning beyond traditional classrooms. The project involved creating a soundproof indoor space with seamless 360° projection on walls, ceiling, and floor, utilising multi-projector technology with auto stitching and blending. The experience had to feature a custom-developed film showcasing the origin of the universe, global ecosystems, Indian ecosystems, and Punjab’s croplands. It had to simplify complex ecological functions and demonstrate both the positive and negative impacts of human activity on ecosystems. The immersive room had to be a self-contained,multi-sensory environment allowing free visitor movement and real-world simulation through enhanced features like soundscapes, odours, climate effects, and biome-specific visuals. The content was to be delivered via specially developed software. The goal was to make science engaging and accessible, sparking curiosity, repeat visits, and lasting learning.

Scope of work your company was involved in

Knownsense Studios understood the clear vision and applied to be part of this ambitious project through a tender. Pushpa Gujral Science City approved the vision proposed by us, and Knownsense Studio became responsible for the complete conceptualisation, design, engineering, content creation, technical integration, and final delivery of the experience.

We started by designing and constructing a custom-built enclosed space with dimensions of 45ft x 17ft x 15ft, engineered with an iron grid frame and insulated panels to create a soundproof, temperature-controlled environment. Fourteen (14) Full HD projectors were installed and calibrated with precision to cover all six surfaces—walls, floor, and ceiling, ensuring a seamless 360-degree projection experience.

We also designed specialised grills to conceal speakers and housed all technical equipment invisibly, preserving the visual integrity of the room. Environmental effects such as smell, temperature changes, wind, and humidity were synchronised with the visual content. An interactive floor was installed to respond in real-time to user movement. We built a tablet-controlled system to seamlessly run all tech—projection, sound, lights, interactivity, and scents—fully engineered by our team.

What Key Challenges were faced?

One of the biggest challenges was integrating multiple sensory technologies like projection, sound, smell, temperature effects, and interactivity into a confined space without compromising the immersive illusion.

Maintaining perfect visual alignment across six surfaces with 14 projectors was a technical challenge, especially when working with ultra-high-resolution 16K content. Ensuring zero distortion and consistent brightness across walls, floor, and ceiling required detailed calibration and testing.

Another significant challenge was the development of a completely enclosed, soundproofed room that could hold environmental effects like heat and cold without leakage. The room also had to be fireproof and meet safety regulations while maintaining a visually seamless appearance.

Scent delivery was complicated. Creating recognisable, natural-smelling fragrances that could be triggered on cue, and then neutralised before the next scene, required extensive trial and error.

Lastly, the interactive floor had to be responsive, durable, and precisely synchronised with the visuals and audio. Ensuring it would work consistently, without lag or technical failures, was a priority, even if the footfall is exhaustive.

How were those challenges resolved?

Each challenge was approached through focused research & development, prototyping, and rigorous on-ground testing.

For projection accuracy, we conducted multiple site simulations to determine projector placement. Custom content was rendered in 16K resolution and split across six surfaces. A customised calibration software ensured pixel-perfect alignment and synchronisation across all projectors. To build a controlled, immersive environment, we engineered an iron grid frame structure, layered with soundproof, fire-resistant panels and glass wool insulation. Doors were specially designed to block external light and sound, preserving the enclosed atmosphere. We carefully formulated scents like petrichor and rhododendron. These were delivered using a timed scent-diffusion system with high-speed neutralisers to clear the air between sequences quickly. Environmental effects like heat and cold were simulated using timed blowers and HVAC, while a motion- and pressure-sensitive floor triggered real-time visuals like cracking ice or shifting sand. All elements were tied together with a central control interface on a tablet, allowing smooth operation and automated sequence control with minimal room for error.

How has your work helped the client

Knownsense Studios’ work helped Pushpa Gujral Science City position itself at the forefront of science communication through immersive storytelling. “Echo Echoes” has become a standout attraction, drawing visitors from across Punjab and beyond, and significantly increasing footfall at the museum.

The exhibit has also elevated the institution’s reputation, not just as a space for science, but as a centre for innovation and experiential engagement. Visitors leave with a memorable, emotionally resonant understanding of Earth’s geographies and ecologies, far beyond what a textbook or static exhibit offers.

The automated and efficient control system we designed ensures the experience can run seamlessly with minimal manpower. The quality and durability of the structure and systems allow it to run multiple shows a day without technical strain, reducing operational costs and overhead maintenance.

The project has also opened doors for similar immersive installations across India, with “Echo Echoes” now being referenced as a benchmark for future-forward science storytelling.

What are you most proud of about the project?

We’re most proud of creating an experience where visitors forget they’re inside a room.

From visuals that surround you to the wind you feel and the scent of rain you smell, every element is designed to dissolve the boundary between audience and environment. The interactivity of footsteps cracking ice or sand shifting beneath the feet adds a layer of immersion that very few exhibits have achieved.

What makes this truly special is that everything, from structure to content, tech to scent, was built from scratch, in-house, by our team. This wasn’t just a project. It was an ecosystem of storytelling, engineering, and emotional design.

And most importantly, we’re proud that we delivered something India had never seen before, and did it the Knownsense way.

Project Overview

Shoolpaneshwar Ghat, located in Gora village by the Narmada River near the Shoolpaneshwar Mahadev Temple, spans roughly 131 m × 47 m. This grand riverfront is the spiritual anchor of Kevadia’s tourism circuit, designed to host the daily Narmada Maha Aarti, inspired by Varanasi’s iconic ritual.

Every evening, eight priests and seven tribal musicians perform a synchronised ritual combining Sanskrit verses, tribal music, and ornamental brass lamps — echoing the Ganga Aarti experience.

With a seating capacity of around 6,000 people, the ghat is designed to welcome large audiences, including guests who can participate as Yajman (honorary hosts) during the ceremony

.What did the client want to achieve?

The client aimed to create a world-class Aqua Screen Projection and Musical Fountain Show to elevate the visitor experience in Kevadia. This initiative was designed not only to enhance the aesthetic and cultural appeal of the destination but also to increase tourist footfall, extend visitor stay duration, and strengthen Kevadia’s branding as an innovative, culturally rich tourism hub. The project supports local economic growth by indirectly benefiting businesses, transport services, and hospitality providers. It also generates direct employment opportunities for operations and maintenance staff over three years. With energy-efficient design and sustainable controls, the system offers both technological innovation and environmental responsibility. Overall, the client sought to transform a public space into a dynamic, high-impact tourism attraction aligned with Kevadia’s broader development goals.

Scope of work your company was involved in

The scope of work spanned multiple domains, ensuring a seamless blend of storytelling, heritage preservation, and immersive experience.

We began with crafting an authentic and emotionally compelling script. This was followed by the development of a detailed creative treatment — including storyboarding, character design, and visual motifs inspired by local art and architecture.

On the technical front, we led the design and installation of the 3D architectural projection mapping. Intelligent lighting design, laser effects, and 5.1 surround sound were choreographed in perfect sync using advanced show-control software to ensure emotional pacing and technical precision.

Our team also engineered and deployed custom-built hydraulic projector systems — a first-of-its-kind in such a heritage setting — allowing for zero visual intrusion during the day and full automation during the show. Importantly, all equipment and mounting solutions were designed to be non-invasive, preserving the fort’s structural integrity.

We coordinated with local authorities, artisans, and cultural stakeholders to ensure that every aspect of the show remained rooted in Maheshwar’s spirit.

What Key Challenges were faced?

1. Location
The site is close to the Narmada River and Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary. We had to ensure that our work didn’t harm the environment. All materials and systems used were chosen carefully to respect the ecology.

2. Difficult Terrain
The ghat’s uneven landscape made installation tricky. Setting up projection systems, laying foundations, and aligning nozzles took thoughtful planning and extra effort.

3. Resource Management
Power and water usage had to be efficient. We couldn’t rely on excess supply, so we designed systems that minimised consumption and reused water wherever possible.

4. Technical Synchronisation
Getting lights, music, water, and aqua screen projection to work in sync wasn’t easy. It required multiple rounds of testing and fine-tuning for a smooth, immersive show.

5. Multi-Stakeholder Coordination
The project involved many teams, local authorities, designers, engineers, and support staff. Aligning everyone and getting timely approvals demanded clear communication and teamwork.

With roots going back to 1989, our team has handled complex water feature installations across India. That experience helped us anticipate issues early and plan with precision.

Smart Engineering, On-Site
Our engineers brought deep technical know-how to the field. Whether it was adjusting to uneven terrain or setting up projection rigs near the water, their on-site adaptability made the difference.

Eco-Conscious Design
Understanding the sensitivity of the site, we opted for water-saving recirculation systems and energy-efficient lighting. Every component was selected with long-term sustainability in mind.

Seamless Synchronization
To create the immersive sound-light-water-projection experience, our control systems team ran multiple simulations and live trials. We fine-tuned sequences until everything felt effortless to the viewer.

Tight Teamwork
Weekly reviews, open channels of communication, and mutual respect helped keep the project on track and conflict-free.

Project Overview

The Maheshwar Ghat Sound and Light Show is a groundbreaking cultural experience set on the sacred banks of the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh. Centred around the iconic Ahilya Fort and Ghat, the show celebrates the legacy of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar through a seamless blend of history, emotion, and advanced technology. Her inspiring story unfolds through 3D architectural projection mapping, intelligent lighting, laser effects, and a powerful script, all synchronised with immersive 5.1 surround sound.

Designed to be both reverent and innovative, the show sets new standards in heritage conservation. With no permanent alterations to the fort, even the projectors are mounted on hydraulic lifts that emerge only during the show, preserving the ghat’s sanctity and unobstructed river views. Every visual detail reflects cultural authenticity, with local artisans contributing to the design.

More than a visual spectacle, the project exemplifies thoughtful engineering, sensitive storytelling, and deep collaboration. It proves what’s possible when heritage is treated as a living legacy.

What did the client want to achieve?

The client aimed to create a world-class Sound and Light Show at Maheshwar Ghat that would celebrate the region’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage while preserving the sanctity of the site. Their core vision was to bring the legacy of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar to life in an emotionally resonant, historically accurate, and technologically innovative way. The objective was not merely to entertain, but to educate and inspire — transforming Maheshwar into a landmark of cultural tourism.

A critical priority was to ensure that the intervention was non-invasive. The client insisted on preserving the architectural integrity of Ahilya Fort and maintaining the uninterrupted spiritual ambience of the ghat. To that end, they envisioned a production where cutting-edge technology like 3D projection mapping, immersive surround sound, and hydraulic projector systems could blend invisibly into the heritage landscape.

Ultimately, the client wanted the show to evoke pride, devotion, and a deep connection to Maheshwar’s legacy — allowing both locals and visitors to experience history not as a distant past, but as a living, breathing narrative that continues to inspire.

Executing the Maheshwar Ghat Sound and Light Show posed several unique and complex challenges, primarily due to the sensitive nature of the heritage site and the spiritual significance of the ghat.

One of the foremost challenges was preserving the architectural sanctity of the Ahilya Fort. The project demanded a completely non-invasive approach — no drilling, nailing, or structural modifications were permitted. Designing equipment mounts and setups that respected this constraint required innovative engineering and custom fabrication.

Another major hurdle was maintaining the uninterrupted view and sanctity of the sacred Narmada River, especially during the day when devotees gather in large numbers.

The natural, open-air setting of the ghat introduced additional challenges such as variable lighting conditions, weather protection for sensitive equipment, and precise alignment for projection mapping on uneven and textured surfaces.

Synchronising multiple layers of technology — including projection, lighting, sound, and narration — in perfect harmony was critical to achieving the emotional impact of the show.

How were those challenges resolved?

To preserve Maheshwar’s architectural integrity, our team adopted a strictly non-invasive design approach. All technical equipment — including projectors, lighting rigs, and speakers — was installed using custom-designed mounts that avoided drilling or physical alterations. Freestanding and discreetly anchored structures ensured the historical fabric remained untouched.

To protect the sanctity and visual clarity of the Narmada River view, we engineered a first-of-its-kind hydraulic projector lift system in a heritage setting. These projectors remain hidden during the day and rise silently at showtime, ensuring that neither religious rituals nor scenic aesthetics are disrupted.

Accurate projection on the fort’s uneven stone surface was achieved using advanced 3D architectural mapping. Digital scans of the structure allowed us to tailor content to the fort’s contours, ensuring distortion-free, immersive visuals. All equipment was protected in weather-resistant enclosures, built to endure Maheshwar’s open-air environment.

We synchronised light, sound, and visuals using high-end show-control software, achieving a seamless, emotionally resonant experience. Most critically, we maintained ongoing dialogue with local authorities, scholars, and community members to ensure a great show.

How has your work helped the client

Our work has significantly advanced the client’s vision of transforming the site into a landmark of cultural tourism while preserving its spiritual sanctity. By delivering an emotionally compelling, technically advanced, and non-invasive production, we enabled the client to achieve a delicate balance between heritage conservation and modern storytelling.

The show has led to a tangible increase in footfall and engagement, contributing to the local economy and cultural revitalisation.

The thoughtful integration of hydraulic projector systems and non-invasive installations has reinforced the client’s commitment to protecting sacred architecture — earning appreciation from authorities, devotees, and cultural experts alike. Our precision-driven approach has also ensured ease of operations, reliability, and minimal maintenance, reducing long-term logistical concerns for the client.

Beyond numbers, the most valuable outcome has been the emotional and cultural resonance the show has created. Visitors leave with a renewed respect for Maheshwar’s legacy — a direct reflection of the client’s vision fulfilled. Our collaborative and respectful execution has helped the client set a new benchmark for heritage storytelling in India.

What are you most proud of about the project?

What we are most proud of in the Maheshwar Ghat Sound and Light Show is the seamless integration of technology with spirituality — achieving innovation without compromising the sanctity of a deeply revered heritage site.

Designing and implementing the hydraulic projector system was a landmark accomplishment. It allowed us to introduce world-class projection technology while preserving uninterrupted views of the sacred Narmada River — a solution that was both respectful and revolutionary. The fact that not a single nail touched the historic walls stands as a testament to our commitment to non-invasive design and cultural sensitivity.

We are also proud of the emotional impact the show delivers. The storytelling, visuals, and soundscapes work in perfect harmony to evoke pride, devotion, and reflection — the very essence of what the client envisioned.

Equally meaningful was the collaboration with local artisans, historians, and authorities. It wasn’t just a project; it was a shared journey rooted in respect, passion, and authenticity. Creating something so technologically advanced, yet so soulfully connected to Maheshwar’s identity, is our greatest achievement.
